Volunteer with a special child
Special Children Foundation (SCF) is a duly registered charitable organization under Certificate Number OP.218/051/2003/0369/
3010 pursuant to and in accordance with section 10 of the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Act of Kenya.

The organization seeks to support Special Children to overcome physical and learning challenges. We aim at helping these children to gain the skills and confidence they need to be successful in their home, school, plus their community, and to foster social skills. Our programs are carefully designed and to meet special children’s needs as early as possible.

SCF appreciates and recognizes the unique needs of every special child by providing tailor made support to both the child and parents too. We also support networking between children’s parents so that they are aware they are not alone and isolated in this demanding journey of making the kids attain their full potential. We believe that each child has unique strengths and with appropriate interventions both at home and school the kids will become independent and achieve their full potential.

In Kenya there are over 1 million special children in lower primary only about 5% access special learning materials, necessary therapies, proper nutrition and medical interventions. Special children care in Kenya lacks equitable distribution of financial and material resources, special-care facilities and services, adequate special support personnel to properly assess and plan for interventions for the needs of each child. Shortage of therapy and learning materials for these children has left many unable to realize their full potential. If the necessary support systems are not put in place in in the early childhold development, these kids will experience more adverse difficulties in future thus hampering their development for life skills, primary education, higher education, employment, independent living and community integration.
